Washington: US President Donald Trump has provided new details about the operation in Venezuela. He said that before the operation was carried out, the power supply to all of Venezuela was cut off simultaneously.
People were shocked and began to realize that something was about to happen. During this time, the only source of light throughout Venezuela was candles.
Giving details of the operation, Trump said, "It was very difficult. 152 fighter planes were involved in this attack, and we had many soldiers on the ground as well. But it was amazing."
Trump said, "Think about it, we didn't lose a single person in this operation, and on the other side, many people were killed. Although I also say that it was unfortunate."
Trump said that before the attack, the US had cut off power throughout the country.
"There was no electricity in Caracas. Only those who had candles had light, and those were about to go out. So we surprised them a little. But it was brilliant – it was brilliant strategically. It was an incredible thing," Trump said.
“As soon as the power went out, they knew we were coming.”
He said that the Venezuelan government was building a torture chamber in the middle of the capital, Caracas, which has now been shut down.
Who will take Venezuela’s oil?
President Trump clarified the US plan regarding Venezuela. He compared the US operation in Iraq to the one in Venezuela and said that the difference between Iraq and this is that former President Bush didn't keep the oil.
"In 2016, I said that we should have kept the oil. That caused a lot of controversy. Well, we should have kept the oil. We will rebuild Venezuela's dilapidated oil facilities, and this time we will keep the oil," he said.
“A lot of money would have to be spent there, and the oil companies would spend it, and then they would be reimbursed through revenue,” he added.
While Trump has publicly announced his plan for Venezuela, the current government and military there do not seem prepared for it.
Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodríguez has called Trump's oil proposal an invasion and plunder. Following the US military action, Trump announced that American companies would invest billions of dollars to revive Venezuela's oil industry and that the US would temporarily be running the country. The Venezuelan government has called this an imperialist intervention.
